Johannesburg - American singer Usher and Grace Miguel have started divorce proceedings months after reports of their separation first surfaced. And The Blast reports the Rivals singer is trying to keep the court records hidden from the public.

According to court documents obtained by the site, the Rivals singer filed a motion to seal the entire case. In the documents Usher said he wanted to keep the details of his divorce from Grace Miguel private as it is a personal and sensitive matter.

He claims that if the public were to have access to information on the divorce it would “serve to compromise the safety and well-being of the parties to this action and those third parties with whom they have professional and contractual obligations”.

Usher tried to keep the initial filing out of the public eye by not using his name on his divorce petition. Instead, his lawyer used both his and Grace’s initials – UR IV and GR – on the documents.

The 40-year-old married Grace in 2015, about six years after they began dating. Grace, who previously worked as Usher's manager, also requested to use her maiden surname, Harry, once the divorce is final.

They separated in December 2017 and announced the split in an official statement in March 2018a few months later. “After much thought and consideration, we have mutually decided to separate as a couple. We remain deeply connected, loving friends who will continue supporting each other through the next phases of our lives.”
