Bollywood legend, Rishi Kapoor, has died. He was 67 years old.

The Bobby actor was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday. His brother, Randhir Kapoor said at the time: "He is suffering from cancer and he has some breathing problems, so he has been admitted to the hospital," reports NDTV.

After a long battle with cancer – he was first diagnosed in 2018, which saw him seek treatment in the US – news broke of his death on Thursday morning.

In a statement, his family said: "Our dear Rishi Kapoor passed away peacefully at 8:45 am IST in hospital today after a two-year battle with leukaemia. The doctors and medical staff at the hospital said he kept them entertained to the last. He remained jovial and determined to live to the fullest right through two years of treatment across two continents. Family, friends, food and films remained his focus and everyone who met him during this time was amazed at how he did not let his illness get the better of him."

News of the 67-year-old's death comes just one day after the passing of Bollywood's Irrfan Khan.

Stars took to social media to pay their respects as they mourned the loss of one of Bollywood's legends.

The Kapoor family's Bollywood roots spans generations with his father, Raj Kapoor, being one of the industry's most celebrated actors, directors and producers.

Rishi is also survived by his wife Neetu Kapoor, daughter Riddhima Kapoor Sahani and son and actor, Ranbir Kapoor.
