WATCH: Barbra Streisand loved her dog so much she had it cloned

Cape Town – Barbra Streisand has more than just happy memories to remember her late Coton du Tulear, Samantha.

In a new interview with Variety, the singer/songwriter/actress/filmmaker revealed that before the death of her best friend and companion in May 2017 she took cells from Samantha’s mouth and tummy and had her cloned.

Miss Scarlett and Miss Violet arrived late last year and will carry on Samantha’s legacy.

While Barbra says they have different personalities, she can’t wait until they are older to see if they share characteristics with Samantha, nicknamed Sammie.

“They have different personalities. I’m waiting for them to get older so I can see if they have her [Samantha’s] brown eyes and seriousnesss.”

Barbra also has a third dog who is a distant cousin of Sammie’s.

The 75-year-old adopted her from a breeder, who named the dog Funny Girl (like the movie), and called her Miss Fanny - which is how Fanny Brice’s dresser refers to the character in the movie.

Happy New Year from my three girls... Pink, Blue & Violet.
