WATCH: Nicki Minaj reveals details on her ‘violent’ relationship

Johannesburg - Nicki Minaj got candid on camera in her new documentary Queen: The documentary revealing the domestic violence that occurred in her family and how she experienced the same thing from an unnamed partner.

The Barbie Dreams hitmaker posted preview clips on her Instagram account, in which she becomes emotional while detailing the violence she had to face during her childhood in an attempt to protect her mother from her abusive father

“I remember when my mother would let my father be violent with her,” recalled an emotional Nicki.

In the short clip Nicki also explained how she would throw her hands out in front of her mother in an attempt to protect her. “As a little girl, I would stand in front of my mother.” 

The 35-year-old rapper, who was recently attacked by Cardi B, shared how she vowed from that day onward to never let a man ill-treat her in anyway.

“Maybe some people would describe me as abrasive or bitchy or whatever because I vowed from that age no man would ever abuse me, call out my name or treat me like that,” said a tearful Nicki.

“Then all of a sudden, that was my life.”

She revealed in the second clip how years later she found herself in an abusive relationship with an unnamed partner which allegedly left her feeling pedestrian about making music.

“Who was I gonna inspire when I had nothing in me to give? I let one human being make me so low that I didn’t even remember who I was,” Nicki explained.

“I was scared to get in the studio because I didn’t believe in myself.”

Nicki, who had in the past spoken out about her toxic relationship’ with ex-boyfriend Meek Mill, said that it wasn’t until she relocated to Miami and then again to New York City did she spark some inspiration for singles like Coco Chanel and Good Form that are featured in her lasted album Queen.

No release date has been published for the official screening of Queen: The documentary.
