Cape Town – There is a very good reason why you have never heard anyone call Matthew McConaughey “Matt”.
The 47-year-old stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! to discuss his latest film, Gold. But Jimmy had a very important question to ask.
“Does anyone call you Matt or is it always Matthew?”
Much to your surprise no one calls Matthew “Matt”... NO ONE!
Here's why:
Matthew replied to Jimmy Kimmel saying that he has always been called Matthew and then proceeded to give his very good reason why.
He told the late night show host, “My mom was mad when I got called Matt.”
He added that she happened to be his Kindergarten teacher and overheard his friend call him the nickname and that was it.
He explained, “Halfway to the monkey bars I feel this hand on my shoulder and I look and it’s my mother and she’s like ‘What are you doing?’ and I said ‘I’m going to play on the monkey bars with John’.
“And she goes ‘Who is?’ and I said ‘I am!’ and she goes ‘What is your name’ and I said ‘Matthew’
“She goes ‘Don’t you ever respond to Matt again, I named you Matthew from the bible!’ and I was like ‘Yes ma’am’”
So, what’s the moral of the story? If anyone call’s Matthew McConaughey “Matt” then you do not know him well.
