WATCH: The subtle but moving way JLo and Shakira honoured Kobe Bryant at the Super Bowl

Cape Town – Jennifer Lopez and Shakira stunned during the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Performing a medley of their greatest hits, the 50-year-old took the stage with the Columbian singer. J Balvin and Bad Bunny also joined them on stage, while JLo's 11-year-old daughter made a special appearance.

Singing with a group of girls dressed in white on stage, Emme performed a slower version of her mom's Let's Get Loud. But before JLo joined her, a cross illuminated on stage. The lights soon turned to yellow and purple – the colours of Kobe Bryant's former basketball team, the Los Angeles Lakers.

Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianni and seven others tragically died in a helicopter accident on Sunday, 26 January.

"I think we will all be remembering Kobe on Sunday," the Shakira said on Thursday during a press conference. "We'll be celebrating life, and celebrating diversity in this country."

JLo added, remembering the moment she heard of the crash, "Alex came to me with tears in his eyes, and he's like, 'You're not going to believe what happened.' He was devastated. He knew Kobe really well. I knew Kobe and Vanessa more in passing. He had come to my last show in Vegas—the both of them—as a date night, and we had a beautiful night that night.

"I think of how awful that must be for her right now," she said. "I've just been praying that God guides her through every moment because she has three more babies to take care of and just wishing that the nightmare was over, but it's not going to be. That's life, and we have to carry on. But at the same time, it affects us, and it will affect us forever."

Before the game, the NFL also paid homage to the NBA legend by displaying a photograph of him and his daughter on screen, with the names of all the people who died in the accident. According to E! News, there was a moment of silence for the victims while the players stood on the 24-yard lines.
