Renovations and rent – they’re paying for it all.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have started to pay back the cost of renovations at their royal home, Frogmore Cottage, People reports.
The royal pair previously stated they’d return funds received for the refurbishments for the home on the grounds of Windsor Castle.
Meghan and Harry recently moved to Los Angeles with their one-year-old son Archie after stepping down from their positions as senior royals.
The repayment process will see the couple pay the Sovereign Grant approximately $3 million (more than R66 million) back for the renovations.
According to InStyle, the process could take more than a decade and the royal couple will continue to pay rent for the property as well, which remains their home in the United Kingdom.
The pair moved into Frogmore in early 2019 and were living there when their son was born.
When the decision was made that they would step down, the queen acknowledged in a statement that a valuable agreement had been reached between herself, Harry and his family.
"Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I’m pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family," she said.
"It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life."
