Cape Town – Many speculated about where the Duke and Duchess would spend Thanksgiving and Christmas after it was announced they wouldn't be joining the rest of the family in Sandringham with the queen.

As it turns out, Their Royal Highnesses never visited the US. They spent their full six-week break in Canada – where Meghan once stayed while shooting Suits – with friends.

On Tuesday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their first official appearance of 2020 in the UK when they visited the Canadian High Commissioner, Janice Charette in London to thank her and the people of Canada for the warm hospitality during their stay.

"What a wonderful place you live in. Thank you so much for having us – not that any of you had anything to do with it," Harry said and the crowd of people laughed. "But the warmth and hospitality that we were shown while there was unbelievable, and that's exactly why we chose to go out there, so thank you."

According to HELLO! Magazine, Harry then suggested Meghan speak to everyone in French, to which she gave a firm, "No!"

Though the Sussex family didn't make any public appearances, they did release a review video of their year which included a never-before-seen picture of Archie and Harry, while locals spotted the royal couple hiking. Meghan even stopped to take a photo for a couple who just couldn't get their selfie quite right.

But it looks like it was Archie who really enjoyed the outdoors.

Meghan commented while at Canada House, "My goodness it was just such an incredible time we were able to have there and with our son too. And just to be able to take in the warmth that we experienced from the people, also just walk around and just see the beauty of Canada.

"To see Archie go 'ahh' when you walk by and just see how stunning it is," she added, "meant a lot to us."

Of course, following their successful trip, royal commentators speculated Harry and Meghan are considering giving up their titles to pack up and move to Canada. The palace has already shut down those rumours
