Cape Town - An intruder wreaked havoc at Buckingham Palace when he breached security in the early hours of the morning and attempted to bang down the palace doors.
The 22-year-old man scaled a fence and was on the loose inside the palace grounds for a few minutes. He was just meters away from Queen Elizabeth’s headquarters before he was arrested at 2am on Thursday, according to Metro.
Luckily the 93-year-old’s home is locked at night so the trespasser couldn’t gain access.
"A man managed to jump over the gates of Buckingham Palace but he was quickly and successfully apprehended by police on the scene," a palace insider said.
"Officers quickly established that he wasn’t carrying any weapons and the incident isn’t terror related. The intruder was immediately arrested and didn’t manage to get near the main building."
A royal source alleged that the intruder was trying to replicate Michael Fagan, who cunningly broke into the monarch’s bedroom 37 years ago.
"This intruder got into the palace almost 37 years to the day since Michael Fagan managed to get inside the queen’s bedroom," the source revealed to The Sun.
"There’s a genuine theory and real fear that he could’ve been launching a copycat operation."
The unidentified interloper remains in custody at a central London Police station.
An investigation is currently underway to probe exactly how the man got onto the grounds.
