Cape Town - Meghan Markle is one step closer to becoming a royal.

According to reports, Meghan was officially baptised into the Church of England.

The Daily Mail reports that the former Suits star was baptised in an intimate 45-minute ceremony on Tuesday evening.

Her baptism was followed by her confirmation, which means Meghan will now be able to join 33-year-old Prince Harry at Holy Communion.

The private service was presided over by Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, at the Chapel Royal on the Kensington Palace grounds.

Naturally, soon-to-be husband Harry was by her side throughout the ceremony.

Also in attendance was the groom’s father Prince Charles, his wife, Duchess of Cornwall Camilla, and one of Meghan’s friends. Unfortunately Harry’s brother and sister-in-law, William and Kate, were not there.

According to US Weekly, the 36-year-old’s mother Doria Ragland and father Thomas Markle were also not present at the ceremony.

Following her baptism, Prince Charles and Camilla are said to have hosted an intimate dinner for 18 guests at Clarence house, reports E! News.

Kensington Palace declined to comment on reports that Meghan, who was raised a Protestant, was going to be baptised before she said “I do” to Prince Harry.

The pair is set to Marry on 19 May in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, and the wedding will be presided over by the Dean of Windsor, David Connor.
