Cape Town – Meghan's passion for humanitarian work began long before she became the Duchess of Sussex – and new footage proves it.

A never-before-seen video of the former American actress visiting Delhi and Mumbai in January 2017 – a little over a year before marrying Prince Harry – during her time as a World Vision ambassador has surfaced.

According to ITV News royal editor Chris Ship, Meghan visited a school in India to showcase the horrifying statistics of girls who drop out of schools due to lack of resources as a result of gender inequality.

In the video, obtained by ITV News, Meghan says: "What we found is that the enrollment at this school went up three times as much, and once the latrines were built so that girls had access to clean hygiene and bathroom facilities while they're at school."

The remainder of the video shows various moments during Meghan's trip in which she interacts with young children. She was also introduced to the Myna Mahila Foundation – an organisation which helps women in Mumbai with things such as providing girls with basic sanitary products so they don't drop out of school.

Following her visit, Meghan penned a lengthy opinion's article that was published on TIME magazine's site in which she discusses how girls and women are directly impacted by the stigmatisation of menstrual health and how it hinders girls’ education.
