Cape Town - The Duchess of Sussex (37) has done her first official interview as a member of the British royal family – and spoke at length about the queen.

The interview was for a documentary called Queen of the World which British TV channel ITV will broadcast in September, Daily Mail reports. It will be aired in two hour-long episodes.

The doccie looks at Queen Elizabeth’s role as head of the Commonwealth and her plans for the younger members of her family to take a leading role in the organisation in future.

It follows the queen’s early years as head of the Commonwealth when the symbols of only the eight member countries at the time were embroidered on her coronation gown, to now when there are 53 member countries, the flowers of which were embroidered on Meghan’s train.

Though Meghan’s dad, Thomas Markle, is no stranger to the media Meghan hasn’t been interviewed since she and Prince Harry got engaged.

Prince Charles, Prince William, Princess Anne and the Duchess of Wessex will also be interviewed for the documentary, which will include images from the queen and Prince Philip’s private art collection.

Both Meghan and Harry gave interviews, Daily Mail reports. The prince was recently named Commonwealth Youth Ambassador by the queen and the couple plan to make the youth of the Commonwealth a priority in their public work.

The documentary will offer a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse of the queen’s life, Jo Clinton-Davis from ITV told Daily Mail.

“With the Duke and Duchess of Sussex about to embark on their first Commonwealth tour to Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific – exactly 65 years after the queen’s first Commonwealth tour – this series couldn’t be more timely,” said Nicolas Kent, creative director at Oxford Films which is making the documentary. Kent is also the executive producer of Queen of the World.

On Wednesday, Harry and Meghan performed their first royal duty in a month when they attended a charity performance of the theatre production Hamilton in London, Daily Mail reports. The event was in aid of young people in Africa who’ve been affected by HIV.
