Cape Town - It seems Meghan Markle is hell-bent on breaking royal traditions at her upcoming nuptials to Prince Harry.

According to The Sunday Times, she’s decided to make a speech at her wedding reception in May.

The speech she’s planning will be an “affectionate” tribute to her new husband, as well as to the Queen, her friends and family.

The 36-year-old American actress will use the speech to thank Queen Elizabeth for hosting the wedding at Windsor Castle, according to reports.

Meghan, who’ll marry Harry in front of 800 guests, has had plenty of experience speaking in front of a crowd.

Not only did she star in the US TV series Suits for seven seasons, she delivered a powerful speech at the United Nation’s 2015 Conference on Women.

According to People.com, traditionally the bride’s father makes the toast at a wedding. But a source told the Times that since it’s not yet known whether Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, will walk her down the aisle, she wants to speak for herself at the reception rather than have her dad do it on her behalf.

“The feeling is that if Meghan’s father doesn’t speak for her, she wants to have the chance to thank her husband and everyone who’s supported them,” the source said.

“Harry thinks it’s a great idea.”

Harry and Meghan will tie the knot on 19 May at St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.
