Cape Town - Six months after helping to organise one of the most highly publicised royal weddings in history Meghan’s personal assistant has called it quits.

Melissa Touabti’s shock exit just months after the nuptials of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex has caused shockwaves. What would cause the 39-year-old French woman to leave such a prestigious and sought-after job?

No reasons have been forthcoming, but what is known is that she previously worked for X Factor judge Robbie Williams and his wife, Ayda Field, who have close links to the royal family and were among the guests at Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie’s wedding last month, Daily Mail reports.

According to insiders Melissa “very happily” worked for the British pop star and his American wife. “Robbie is a lively character, but she worked for him longer than she worked for Meghan,” a friend told Daily Mail. “It’s a real shock.”

A possible reason could be the traumatic build-up to Harry and Meghan’s wedding – which Melissa no doubt had to deal with.

This of course included much drama from Meghan’s estranged father, Thomas Markle (71), who kept voicing his dissent to the media at every opportunity, causing much embarrassment to the royal family, The Insider reports.

Royal biographer Robert Jobson claimed in his book, Charles at Seventy that Meghan’s wedding preparations were so stressful that Harry became “petulant and short-tempered” with members of staff.

He wrote: “Raising his voice on occasion, Harry would insist, ‘What Meghan wants, she gets.’”

Melissa isn’t the first to quit since Meghan joined The Firm – her and Harry’s private secretary has also left. Rumour has it Meghan’s unstoppable work ethic is to blame, Express reports.

The 37-year-old wakes up at 05:00 each day, according to the Daily Mail, and she’ll often send her staff six or seven texts with ideas or requests. Another source was quoted in the UK’s The Sun saying Meghan has “very high standards” and “can be difficult”.

Shortly after Melissa’s resignation, a palace source paid tribute to her: “Melissa is a hugely talented person. She played a pivotal role in the success of the royal wedding and will be missed by everyone in the royal household.”
