Cape Town - Prince Charles has opened up about the concerns he has for his unborn grandchild.

During a recent visit to Ghana, the Prince of Wales spoke about how future generations will be affected by pollution, the Daily Telegraph reports.

“I’m about to have another grandchild, actually. I suspect quite a few of you may too have grandchildren or will do soon,” Prince Charles said.

“It does seem to me insanity if we’re going to bequeath this completely polluted, damaged and destroyed world to them.

“All grandchildren deserve a better future.”

Prince Charles, who’ll be celebrating his 70th birthday later this month, also spoke about ways to reduce plastic waste, People magazine reports.

“A good start has been made. The matter of plastic debris in the environment, in particular the ocean, is now on the agenda,” the 69-year-old said.

“We do however need to keep it there as the amount of plastic entering the ocean every year is, unbelievably, set to get worse rather than better.

Plastic pollution has been an issue close to the prince’s heart for some time, Elle reports.

Earlier this year, the queen’s eldest child spoke candidly at a meeting with environmentalists and business leaders at The British Academy about the serious matter.

“We cannot, indeed must not, allow this situation to continue. I do fervently pray that you’ll all do your utmost to work together in the coming year to make real, substantial progress,” he said.
