Cape Town - The Prince of Wales has revealed his unusual nickname for his new daughter-in-law, the Duchess of Sussex, that references her relationship with Prince Harry.

Prince Charles calls Meghan (36) “Tungsten” because, like the super-hard metal, she’s “tough and unbending”, the Daily Star reports royal sources as saying.

“Prince Charles admires Meghan for her strength and the backbone she gives Harry, who needs a tungsten-type of figure in his life as he can be a bit of a softie,” a source told Daily Mail on Sunday. “It’s become a term of endearment.”

The nickname seems to cement the bond between her and Charles, who walked her down the aisle in the absence of her father, Thomas Markle, who was unable to attend the wedding because of health reasons.

Before the couple got married Harry revealed he calls Meghan “Meg”, while the new royal referred to Harry as “my prince” in her wedding speech.

Meghan isn’t the only one with an interesting nickname. Queen Elizabeth also has a term of endearment only those closest to her may use – and it’s not what most people might expect.

According to Majesty magazine, the queen’s innermost circle – which now includes Meghan – affectionately call her “Mama”, as opposed to the “Ma’am” she’s traditionally addressed as.

The queen seems to have a soft spot for Meg and has even invited her to spend a night on her private train – an invitation that’s never been extended to Duchess Catherine, or Princes Harry and William, Mail Online reports.
