Cape Town – Prince Harry just broke royal protocol, but you'll probably never guess which every-day action could potentially shake the lives of royal commentators as we know it.
According to E! News, the Duke of Sussex recently attended the 5th anniversary of the Invictus Games and to everyone's shock horror, the 34-year-old... shut his own car door.
Can you hear that? It's the sound of teacups dropping right out of the hands of royal commentators – jaws are on the floor.
But this isn't the first time people were up in arms about the "car door heard around the world".
According to BBC, when Meghan attended her first solo royal engagement in 2018, the Duchess stepped out of the car at the Royal Academy of Arts and – blimey – she shut the door behind her too.
Not that it matters, but to clear the air, etiquette expert William Hanson told Radio 1 Newsbeat, Meghan, and Harry, didn't really break royal protocol.
"Usually, if you are a member of the royal family or a dignitary, you have a member of staff to open and close a car door for you," he said. But he continued explaining that when they do so, it's more for security purposes.
For the Duke and Duchess of Sussex it's pretty much a never-ending rollercoaster of backlash and praise – hold the praise – but many did comment that Harry is simply being, what Meghan was said to have been then: "down-to-earth" and "humble".
To quote royal correspondent, Emily Andrews, "A princess [or prince] who still takes the time to shut her [ or his] car door. Well done."
