Cape Town – The Dark Knight director, Christopher Nolan, received the highest ranking Order of the British Empire on Thursday for his contribution to the arts.
Prince William awarded him his Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) medal for his extensive work as a director, screenwriter and producer in the film industry.
According to the Kensington Palace Instagram account, Nolan was 'thrilled' to have received the honour.
He said, "As a passionate advocate of film and the importance of film culturally, it is really thrilling to me that film would be honoured in this way and is considered worthy of this kind of honour. I think film is one of the great collective pastimes, one of the great art forms. It is lovely to see it accorded this kind of status."
With numerous awards under his belt, Nolan’s filmography is estimated to have grossed a total of $4.7 billion (R66.8 billion) worldwide, according to Independent.ie.
On Thursday Nolan also revealed the trailer for his much-anticipated “secret project” – the film, Tenet.
