Following Harry and Meghan's decision to step down as senior members of the royal family, Princess Diana's former designer is weighing in, sharing the advice his mom would've given him.

"She wouldn't be upset about Harry stepping back," Paul Costelloe told People at his London Fashion Week show on Monday. "She would say 'Do what you need to do,' definitely.

"She was not a royalist at all," he added, "she was a person of the people and she put her children first before anything else."

According to the publication, Paul first met Diana in 1982 and went on to dress the royal for 15 years.

He got to know her family over the years too.

"I remember meeting William and Harry — they were so cute," he recalled. "Harry was the little troublemaker and William was always well behaved."

The 73-year-old's account comes as discussions concluded on Wednesday revealing Harry and Meghan will officially leave the royal firm on 31 March. This, after returning to the UK in what appears to be a farewell visit with numerous engagements for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex between 28 February and 9 March.

Paul isn't the first former aid of Princess Diana to weigh in on Harry and Meghan's choice to leave the royal family.

According to the princess' former butler, Paul Burrell, she would've supported her son's decision to step back. "They'll be free. They've been given back their lives. Being royal isn't all it's cracked up to be," he said.

He also added Diana would've loved Meghan just as Harry does. "Harry absolutely sees his mother in Meghan," he said. "He was looking for a mature woman who had strong visions of the future, not someone who dressed in Dior and dripping in Chanel."
