Cape Town - Lady Kitty Spencer, a niece of the late Princess Diana, has spoken about how her cousin Prince Harry’s wedding to Meghan Markle changed her life.

In a recent interview with Harper's Bazaar she spoke about how public interest in her sky-rocketed after the wedding.

She wore a green Dolce & Gabbana dress to the wedding, which led to comparison with her late aunt, with many saying she’d inherited her aunt’s natural beauty and elegant fashion sense, Mirror UK reports.

The 28-year-old model - who’s the eldest daughter of Princess Diana’s brother Earl Charles Spencer - said she found the spotlight quite frightening.

"It was definitely unexpected," she says.

"My [Instagram] followers went from 17 000 to half-a-million in one night."

A week after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding, it was announced that Kitty is the new brand ambassador for luxury designer brand Bulgari, according to honey.nine.

Since then, she’s been jetting across the globe for work, and spends most of her time between New York, Beijing, Moscow and Dubai.

Kitty was born in 1990 and grew up in South Africa with her mother, Victoria Lockwood, a former model. She later studied psychology at the University of Cape Town (UCT).

She says with the new-found fame comes the pressure to change her appearance – something she refuses to do.

"I guess I’m doing these things on my own terms. I don’t think it’s my job to starve to fit into an outfit," she says.

"If I’ve agreed to do something for a brand or whatever, I look after myself but I’m not obsessive or unhealthy. If a brand wants to work with me, and think their designs look good on me, then they can give them to me in my size."
