Queen Elizabeth bestows highest honour on granddaughter-in-law Kate

Cape Town – Queen Elizabeth has given Kate, Duchess of Cambridge a new title and it's the grandest honour yet.

On Monday, Buckingham Palace announced that the queen had appointed Kate as Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order - the highest rank in the order personally granted by the queen.

According to a statement by the palace, Awards in the Royal Victorian Order are made personally by Queen Elizabeth, for services to the Sovereign.

Kate joins fellow royals namely Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall and Sophie, Countess of Wessex who also hold the title. Queen Elizabeth's daughter, Princess Anne, serves as Grand Master.
