Cape Town – After paparazzi photos of Meghan and baby Archie appeared in Canadian newspapers and on websites, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex issued a legal warning to the media.
Photos of Meghan carrying baby Archie while on a walk with her dogs in a park were taken by paparazzi photographers hiding in the bushes.
According to the BBC, photographers are hounding the couple at their new base in Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
But the royals have made it clear that they will not hesitate to take legal action to protect their privacy.
"Under laws in British Columbia, the duchess may have grounds for a legal case if she can prove her privacy has been violated, although freedom of the press and expression is guaranteed under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms," comments the BBC.
'I LOST MY MOTHER AND NOW MY WIFE IS FALLING VICTIM'
In October 2019 Prince Harry described his wife as being hounded by the press in the same way as his mother Princess Diana was before her death in a Paris car crash in 1997.
"My deepest fear is history repeating itself," he said in a statement. "I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces."
Harry and Meghan early in 2020 announced that they would be stepping down as senior members of the royal family and split their time between the UK and Northern America.
The queen on Saturday issued a statement saying she supports their decision. Along with the statement it was revealed that Harry and Meghan would no longer receive royal funds or be able to use their HRH titles. Harry’s ties with the British military have also been cut.
On Sunday night Prince Harry at a charity event said: "There were so many months of talks after so many years of challenges. I know I haven’t always gotten it right, but as far as this goes there really wasn’t any other option. What I want to make clear is we’re not walking away, and we certainly aren’t walking away from you."
He added: "I will always have the utmost respect for my grandmother — my commander in chief — and I’m incredibly grateful to her and the rest of my family for the support they have shown Meghan and I over the last few months."
