Cape Town – Kate Middleton and Prince William – who is the president of the Baftas – attended the award ceremony on Sunday night. Kate and William later spoke to celebs backstage.

According to HELLO! Magazine, as William talked about the number of films he watched before the show, Kate quipped, "Having children is so bad for watching films!"

Prince William also garnered quite a bit of attention following the couple's night out.

The Duke of Cambridge delivered a powerful speech calling out the lack of diversity at film awards.

"Both here in the UK and in many other countries across the world we are lucky to have incredible filmmakers, actors, producers, directors and technicians – men and women from all backgrounds and ethnicities enriching our lives through film.

"Yet in 2020, and not for the first time in the last few years, we find ourselves talking again about the need to do more to ensure diversity in the sector and in the awards process – that simply cannot be right in this day and age!"

Prince William later spoke to Bafta winner, Joaquin Phoenix, about his role in Joker, reports Vanity Fair.

"Lovely to meet you," he said. "I absolutely loved Joker. It was brilliant. I put it off and put it off before watching it, as people kept telling me, 'Be careful when you choose to watch it.' I'm glad I didn't watch it before bed, but huge congratulations on an amazing performance."

The 45-year-old actor thanked him and praised his speech during the show, as he too has spoken out against the lack of diversity.

But in a video that went viral online, he shook the royal's hand and politely curtsied in what could easily have been the most innocent and purest moment of the show.
