Cape Town – Duchess Meghan, a proud advocate for equal rights, attended a round table discussion on gender equity with the One Young World (OYW) and Queen's Commonwealth Trust young leaders on Thursday – but this time, the Duke of Sussex joined her.
According to the Sussex Royal Instagram account, the duchess has been working with a select group of young leaders for quite some time admiring the work they've been doing to change the world, and the Queen's Commonwealth Trust, of which Their Royal Highnesses are president and vice-president, partnered with the OYW to award scholarships to inspiring youth.
The appearance by Prince Harry came as a surprise, as Meghan usually carries out specific engagements for causes close to her heart, on her own, but Her Royal Highness explained the significance of his presence in a poignant speech.
"In terms of gender equality, which has been something I have championed for quite a long time, you know, I think that that conversation can't happen without men being part of it," she said. "And this is something that is also very key to the way my husband feels.
"He's been working in this space since 2013, which a lot of people don't notice as much. But I think that's what's really important. You can't have a conversation about women's empowerment with just women."
According to royal correspondent, Richard Palmer, the duchess closed by adding, "Thank you for letting him (Harry) crash the party.
