Cape Town - Prince Philip, who’s known for his witty remarks, landed himself in hot water when he said something inappropriate about Queen Elizabeth.
According to royal correspondent James Whitaker, the Duke of Edinburgh once made a rude joke about Her Majesty's skin – and she wasn’t one bit impressed, Daily Express reports.
"When Philip’s cousin, Patricia Mountbatten remarked on Elizabeth’s flawless complexion, the Prince joked, 'Yes, and she’s like that all over!'," Whitaker said.
But this isn’t the first time the 98-year-old has cracked a slightly inappropriate joke, Independent reports.
During the 1981 recession, Prince Philip made a witty remark about the UK's economic crisis.
"A few years ago, everybody was saying we must have more leisure, everyone’s working too much," the prince said.
"Now that everybody’s got more leisure time, they’re complaining they’re unemployed. People don’t seem to make up their minds what they want."
Although Philip’s jokes are controversial at times, royal experts revealed that the royal pair’s 71-year-long marriage is down to their shared sense of humour.
"Prince Philip is the only man in the world who treats the Queen simply as another human being," former private secretary, Lord Charteris told Vanity Fair.
"He’s the only man who can. Strange as it may seem, I believe she values that."
