Cape Town - Her Royal Highness may have 99 problems but having to renew her driver’s licence definitely isn’t one of them.
Yep, Queen Elizabeth enjoys a royal perk like no other: she’s never been tested for a driving licence and is allowed to drive without one, The Sun reported.
This is a benefit only the queen can enjoy in the UK. Added to this, the reigning monarch is also allowed to drive a car without a number plate.
The queen who learned how to drive at the age of 18 has always enjoyed driving herself despite having access to drivers all her life.
The 93-year-old has been jumping behind the steering wheel ever since then on occasions when it’s not required for her to be chauffeured to engagements, as protocol dictates.
According to Hello! magazine, Queen Elizabeth is a fan of Land Rovers and Range Rovers.
"Other British brands she uses are Bentley and Jaguar, and her whole car collection is said to be worth £10 million (R185m) upwards," says the magazine.
With a collection of cars like that it’s no wonder she’d want to drive her four-wheeled toys herself every once in a while, even at her age.
Metro reported earlier this year that the queen had given up driving on public roads following her husband, Prince Phillip, handing over his licence after a car crash in January.
She may no longer be seen taking her cars for a spin on public roads, but Queen Elizabeth probably seizes the opportunity to take over the steering wheel back at the Buckingham Palace whenever she feels like it.
