Cape Town - Queen Elizabeth is no stranger to expensive hobbies, so it’s no surprise she has a hobby worth £100 million (around R1.8 billion).

The monarch has a vast stamp collection, according to the Telegraph.

"The queen loves showing her stamp collection to visitors, [according to] heads of state who stay at Buckingham Palace," royal expert Phil Dampier said.

"It’s one of her pride and joys, not only because she owns some of the world’s most valuable stamps, but also because she’s built on a family treasure and feels she’s done her father and previous monarchs who owned it proud."

Experts have valued her impressive collection at being worth nine figures, Express UK reports.

The most valuable of the queen’s private stock is a Mauritian stamp valued at £2 million (about R36.4 million). It was shown in a travelling exhibition to celebrate her majesty’s Golden Jubilee in 2002.

It is unclear whether she still has the valuable stamp in her collection. It’s said to be one of the most prized in the world because it was the first to be issued by a colonial post office, Sun UK reports.

All British stamps which were issued from 1840 and onwards, feature the head of the reigning monarch. The current profile of the queen was issued in June 1967 and has remained unchanged for four decades.
