Over the years Queen Elizabeth has used some clever tricks to get herself out of boring conversations.
The 93-year-old monarch shrewdly twists her Welsh gold wedding ring, given to her by her husband Prince Philip, as a signal to her aids when she needs to be rescued from a boring conversation, Express UK reports.
According to Hugo Vickers, a royal historian, the queen also moves her handbag from one side to the other if she wants a conversation to end swiftly – which isn’t as intense as twisting her wedding band.
"It would be very worrying if you were talking to the queen and saw the handbag move from one hand to the other.
"It would be done very nicely," Hugo revealed.
"Someone would come along and say, 'Sir, the Archbishop of Canterbury would very much like to meet you,'" NY Post reported.
But the queen isn’t the only royal who’s found clever ways to escape tedious conversations.
According to The Sun, Prince Charles uses jokes as a quick way to wrap up small talk.
"What they all do is try to find a quick joke to leave it on," Hugo added.
"Prince Charles has a quick 'ha ha' and that enables him to break the conversation."
