Cape Town – Rumours that Britain's Prince Andrew and his ex-wife of 23-years Sarah Ferguson are back together have been making the rounds – but have they really rekindled their romance?

Following a report by ITV News that a recent trip together confirmed the rekindling of their romantic relationship, a spokesperson for Fergie has denied the rumours.

"The Duke and Duchess remain good friends as they have been for many years, and nothing has changed," the spokesperson told Hello! in a statement.

Furthermore, close friends of Duchess Fergie told Vanity Fair that the two have always remained close friends.

"They are the best of friends. Always have been, always will be. The idea that they are having some hot romance as far as I know isn’t the case at all. They don’t share a bedroom but they do share two houses and two gorgeous daughters who they adore. They are very close."

The source added that while they do love each other very much, they are no longer in love.

Meanwhile, Fergie opened up about her relationship with her ex in a recent interview with Hello!, saying: "A table can't stand on three legs, really, so you have the Duke and I, and the two girls. We're a family unit and we lead by example. We support each other emotionally and we support each other health wise. At least every two weeks we sit down and communicate, the four of us."

Nevertheless, should the former couple wish to wed a second time they wouldn't need Queen Elizabeth's permission, Express UK reports.

The birth of Prince William and Kate's third child, Prince Louis, bumped Prince Andrew to seventh in line to the throne and according to 1772's Royal Marriages Act, only the royals from first to sixth in line need to ask the monarch for consent.
