Teri Hatcher swims for charity

Teri Hatcher completed a charity swim in the Pacific Ocean yesterday.

The 45-year-old actress braved the freezing water to complete a half-mile portion of the Nautica Malibu Triathlon in just 26 minutes, raising money for Children's Hospital Los Angeles, after being stricken by the plight of three-year-old Sophia Rothman, who has battled blindness and suffered from juvenile rheumatoid arthritis.

Teri – who did not compete in the running or cycling parts of the race – told RadarOnline.com: "Even though the water was cold, nothing can compare to what little Sophia is going through. I came out here today to help bring awareness of this disease. Events like this are one of many ways celebrities can bring awareness for different causes. Anything I can do to help, count me in."

After she left the water, Teri was greeted by Sophia and her parents, who were delighted by the actress’ efforts.

Sophia’s mother said: "We're so thankful for Teri and her support. Teri helped save our daughter's vision."

Dressed in a skin-tight wetsuit and fuschia swimsuit, the Desperate Housewives star joked: “I look good don't I?”

Teri – who has a 12-year-old daughter Emerson Rose with ex-husband Jon Tenney – recently admitted she wasn’t as fit as she had been when she completed the entire event in 2009, but appealed for fans to continue to support her efforts.

She wrote on her personal pledge page: “I’m a far cry from the shape I was in back in 2009, a year ago, when I complete the entire Triathlon.

“Two broken ribs later and a month of taking care of my dad on the mend from open heart surgery, as well as recovering from Lymes disease picking up my daughter from summer camp and well, being just off the work out train, all I can say is ITS FOR THE CHILDREN.“I may be slower this year, but I won’t give up on kids in need. Thank you for supporting 2010 Nautica Malibu Triathlon. Your contribution is greatly appreciated. (sic)”
