Is it a genetically modified pig? An alien species, like the prawns of District 9? Or something even more sinister?
These are the questions doing the rounds as a short, but no less exciting viral video from award-winning South African director Neill Blomkamp has hit the web. The video was first spotted in the latest iPad-app version of WiReD Magazine.
Precise details about the video are sketchy, just as District 9 was teased with strange images such as these which popped up on the web and on the streets months before the movie premiered. There is speculation that the video is a teaser for Blomkamp's much-anticipated follow-up to the four-times Oscar-nominated District 9, a project that both the director and its breakout star Sharlto Copley have admitted is something they're actively working towards. The shaky hand-held camera style in which the one-minute spot has been shot is certainly reminiscent of the now-famous District 9 documentary aesthetic.
