2013 Jozi Film Festival winners revealed

Johannesburg - The winners of the 2013 Jozi Film Festival in various categories were announced during a ceremony held at Villa Acardia in Parktown on Sunday evening.

It was the second time the Jozi Film Festival took place, which kicked off on Friday 16 February with the sold-out screening of the satirical comedy Fanie Fourie's Lobola. Around 23 films were showcased in The Bioscope Independent Cinema, Villa Arcadia and Kliptown over the weekend.

The awards ceremony was hosted by comedian John Vlismas and saw awards being handed out in 6 major categories. Awards were also handed out in the first ever Vodacom Mobile Phone Film Competition where residents of Johannesburg were urged to submits films shot entirely on their mobile phones.

South African township film Kanye Kanye, which has been nominated for a Student Academy Award in the Best Foreign Student Short Film category, won Best Student Film at the festival.

Best Documentary Short Film: Siphe Bongwana - Energy is Power

Best Documentary Feature Film: Tobias Lindner - Orania

Best Short Fiction Film - Joint winners: Guy Spiller - My Room At The Centre of the Universe / Nevil Sandama - iBalaclava

Best Student Film: Mikles Manneke - Kanye Kanye

Best Feature Film: Vickus Strijdom - Zama Zama

Audience Choice Award: Henk Pretorius - Fanie Fourie's Lobola (in cinemas 1 March)
