3 new movies to see in SA cinemas now

Cape Town – The origin story of one of Spider-man’s most formidable nemesis hits the big screen this weekend.

In Venom Tom Hardy plays journalist Eddie Brock who while investigating the notorious founder of a foundation becomes infected with a Symbiote – an alien parasite that grants him incredible powers.

Also showing: Forest Whitaker plays Archbishop Desmond Tutu in a searing drama about the TRC and a magical fantasy that celebrates outsiders.

Here are the 3 new films releasing in SA:

Movie: Venom

Our rating: 1/5

Short review: A terrible throwback to the worst superhero films of years gone by, the only good thing about Venom is a five minute coda at the end of the credits that have nothing to do with the film itself.

Movie: The Forgiven

Our rating: 3/5

Short review: Despite Forest Whitaker playing an unconvincing Desmond Tutu and an inconsistent storyline, The Forgiven is a powerful portrayal of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission days.
