Amy Winehouse's ex-fiancé claims Amy: The Girl Behind The Name exploits her talents for the wrong reason

Los Angeles - Amy Winehouse's ex-fiancé Reg Traviss has claimed the biopic of her life "effectively attacks" the late singer.

The 38-year-old director has spoken out about the way he felt when he saw Amy: The Girl Behind The Name in January, and realised how little he featured despite having filmed hours worth of interview material and being engaged to the late Back to Black hitmaker - who died from alcohol poisoning in 2011 - at the time of her death.

Reg said: "Amy was a real person, and what the documentary-makers have done - like so many others before them - is effectively attack her. They claimed to have made a serious, unbiased documentary that presents an honest depiction of Amy.

"Instead, they have taken her name and exploited her talent for their own ends, without taking the responsibility of reflecting the true person that she was.''

The Anti-Social filmmaker's comments come after Amy's father Mitch Winehouse revealed he and his family have withdrawn support for the biopic, which was directed by Asif Kapadia, claiming it contains "basic untruths", and Reg said the reason they accepted the idea for a documentary was due to Asif's Senna credentials.

He explained to the Daily Telegraph newspaper: "We had no reason not to trust (the directors). The result? What can only be described as a fictionalised biopic based around a distorted depiction of Amy's life.

"It upsets me that this film may now shape how people remember her."
