Angelina Jolie to play her mom in new film

Los Angeles - Angelina Jolie is to play her late mother in a new film.

The Oscar-winning actress - who revealed last week she had undergone a double mastectomy after discovering she carried the BRCA1 gene, which meant she had an 87% chance of contracting breast cancer and a 50% chance of suffering from ovarian cancer - will portray Marcheline Bertrand, who died of cancer in 2007 aged 56, in the movie, which will be made by her partner Brad Pitt's Plan B production company.

According to reports, the biopic will go into production in 2014, but does not yet have a release date.

Like Angelina, 37, Marcheline was known for her humanitarian work and helped female Afghan refugees and also launched the Give Love Give Life organsation in an effort to help fight gynecological cancers.

The Salt star - who raises children Maddox, 11, Pax, nine, Zahara, eight, Shiloh, six, and twins Knox and Vivienne, four, with Brad - has previously described her late mother as "grace incarnate".

She also said: "I feel blessed that she was around to see both my brother and I in a nice place. She waited till everyone was OK. Then she closed her eyes."
