Cavendish Nouveau closing earlier

Cape Town - Ster Kinekor announced on Monday that the closure of the Cavendish Square Nouveau cinema in Cape Town has been brought forward.

The cinema, which was initially set to close for business on 17 January, will now close on 13 January.

Ster Kinekor announced to the media on Friday that the Cavendish Square Nouveau will be closing to make way for a new retailer.

The Cavendish commercial theatre complex upstairs and the V&A Waterfront Nouveau cinema will remain operational.

"It is with regret that we have to share this news with our valued cinema audiences who have been so supportive of Cavendish Nouveau over the years," Fiaz Mahomed, CEO of Ster-Kinekor, said on Friday.

"The closure of the theatre complex was a decision made by the mall owners who have decided to allocate the space used currently by Cinema Nouveau to an alternative retailer instead."

UPDATE: Ster Kinekor has since retraced this date change due to an "internal error". The close date of 17 January stands. Get the full story here.
