Johannesburg - The first teaser trailer and poster for Leon Schuster's highly anticipated new comedy Mad Buddies has been released. The plot details of the movie, long under wraps, have also been teased.

The movie stars South African comedy legend Schuster as well as Kenneth Nkosi (Jerusalema, Tsotsi, White Wedding), model-actress Tanit Phoenix (Spud, Straight Outta Benoni) and longtime Schuster sidekick Alfred "Shorty" Ntombela (Sweet 'n Short, Schuks Tshabalala's Survival Guide to South Africa).

The film kicks off when sworn enemies, Boetie (played by Schuster) and Beast (Nkosi), are forced to embark on a road trip as unwitting subjects of a new TV reality show, devised by a gorgeous TV producer, Kelsey (Phoenix).

On camera, with the whole of South Africa in on the joke, the pair come unstuck at every stage of this hilarious journey until they discover that they have been conned and join forces to exact revenge.

"I am very excited to share this trailer with fans!  I can’t wait to hear how people will start reacting to Mad Buddies, a film that offers something different from what I have done in the past," said Schuster of his new venture.

The trailer shows off some classic Schuster slapstick comedy tricks that have made him the most successful filmmaker in South African history. Four of the top 10 grossing films of all time in South Africa are Schuster productions.

As the mismatched "mad buddies" of the story, Schuster and Nkosi have to contend with a mutilated pig roast, a naked bride, the long arm of the law and, of course, some unfortuantely placed cow dung.

Mad Buddies was shot on location across Gauteng and Kwa-Zulu Natal and directed by Gray Hofmeyr, with Helena Spring acting as producer.

It is set for release across South Africa on June 22 2012. Distribution rights for the film have been acquired by The Walt Disney Company South Africa - although the film will not be distributed under the Disney banner.

Fans can keep up with the latest Mad Buddies developments on Facebook.

If anyone was brave enough to watch this trailer please let me know if it's as bad as I'm imagining.

      Miss-Joy - 2011-12-02 12:07

Ek soen eerder 'n geel slang.

      Andrew - 2011-12-02 13:35

Hahahaha... I loved it, it was slapstick at its best without being what I term "embarrassing" slapstick. I do hope I will get an opportunity to either see it in London, or buy the vid over here.

      Deon - 2011-12-06 10:47

We need something to laugh about in SA, we have too many comedians in politics. I will rather watch this than Platteland.

  • The-third - 2011-12-02 12:46

Same old same old. Doesn't really matter though. The recipe will work and a few million will be made. Man understands his target audience and could give a shit what other's think. So I suppose good on him for that.

  • Jaco - 2011-12-02 12:49

    Feed 'em all cake!

  • Paul - 2011-12-02 12:56

Jees that looks rubbish... Schuster's movies have gone down the toilet in recent times. His older ones were much funnier. Mr Bones and Millenium Menace were shocking. This looks just as bad...

I'm beginning to think Leon & Alfred "Shorty" Ntombela must be a couple... they can't make a movie without each other anymore!!!

      Professor.kangotue1 - 2012-04-06 19:52

  • chris.j.mouton - 2011-12-02 14:03

Guys, it's Leon. He is a South African comedy legend. Ja, some of the things may not be that funny, but his target audience is very big and demographic. Big up Leon. You're still a legend.

  • Peter - 2011-12-02 14:04

  • mbotsellasie - 2011-12-05 13:26

Not this Kenneth guy again!! New faces, anyone?? That's why the SA movie industry will never grow!!

  • Rosemary - 2011-12-06 13:21

    Can't wait, looks good.

  • Zion - 2011-12-08 17:15

In the beginning and in the past I loved Schuster's flieks. Saw them all for free on SABC because that was about all they had. And saw them all over again on repeats. The humour remains unchanged. The lines are close in most. The plot is usually so transparent as to loose the grip on the audience. The dialogue is always balancing on the edge of decency and all the stunts similar but feeble. No sir, I would rather fire a cannon ball through a house than sit in agony watching a Schuster movie if that is what it is called. Now if the beer was free, weeell theeen.

  • tinkele - 2012-06-04 10:06

Realy!!! Leon Schuster is an embarrasment...we should deface and boycott all his movies...same old jokes/cast...just a change in location. nxxxxx

I have never laughed so Much as I did today!, from beginning to end, AND it made room for a real tear as well! Whole Movie House in fits of laughter, Pity Black Viewers next to me did not utter a sign of laughter, obvously loss of sense of humour, Thanks Leon, as always, you are the Best! You have been from day one and still remain on my list! And as for some comments, get some life I would say!
