Watch: Leon Schuster's Mad Buddies trailer

Johannesburg - The first teaser trailer and poster for Leon Schuster's highly anticipated new comedy Mad Buddies has been released. The plot details of the movie, long under wraps, have also been teased.

The movie stars South African comedy legend Schuster as well as Kenneth Nkosi (Jerusalema, Tsotsi, White Wedding), model-actress Tanit Phoenix (Spud, Straight Outta Benoni) and longtime Schuster sidekick Alfred "Shorty" Ntombela (Sweet 'n Short, Schuks Tshabalala's Survival Guide to South Africa).

The film kicks off when sworn enemies, Boetie (played by Schuster) and Beast (Nkosi), are forced to embark on a road trip as unwitting subjects of a new TV reality show, devised by a gorgeous TV producer, Kelsey (Phoenix).

On camera, with the whole of South Africa in on the joke, the pair come unstuck at every stage of this hilarious journey until they discover that they have been conned and join forces to exact revenge.

"I am very excited to share this trailer with fans!  I can’t wait to hear how people will start reacting to Mad Buddies, a film that offers something different from what I have done in the past," said Schuster of his new venture.

The trailer shows off some classic Schuster slapstick comedy tricks that have made him the most successful filmmaker in South African history. Four of the top 10 grossing films of all time in South Africa are Schuster productions.

As the mismatched "mad buddies" of the story, Schuster and Nkosi have to contend with a mutilated pig roast, a naked bride, the long arm of the law and, of course, some unfortuantely placed cow dung.

Mad Buddies was shot on location across Gauteng and Kwa-Zulu Natal and directed by Gray Hofmeyr, with Helena Spring acting as producer.

It is set for release across South Africa on June 22 2012. Distribution rights for the film have been acquired by The Walt Disney Company South Africa - although the film will not be distributed under the Disney banner.
