Marvel Studios have released the first official trailer for The Avengers, which brings together superheroes Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and The Hulk together on the big screen for the first time.
The movie follows closely on the heels of Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor, which were released earlier this year, introducing the strands for what will make up the core story of The Avengers.
Scarlett Johansson
Robert Downey Jr reprises his role as billionaire playboy industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man, alongside Chris Evans as Capt Steve Rogers/Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury and Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye.
New to the cast is Mark Ruffalo who replaces Edward Norton as Bruce Banner/The Hulk.
Also reprising his role as the main villain from Thor is British actor Tom Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Thor's conflicted brother from the fantastic realm of Asgard who is out to destroy Earth.
The Avengers is directed by Joss Whedon and is set for a May 4 2012 release.
