Scariest movie scenes

Cape Town - Some of us like the thrill of being scared, others take joy in scaring people almost to the point of no return.

So if you are a horror junkie, this is just the dose of gross you will need.

But be warned there is a very good chance you won't be able to sleep tonight after watching these snippets by the cinematic masters of doom and gloom.

The Shining Twins

The Shining Twins

In one of the most frayed-nerves-inducing movies ever, the scene where the little boy rides along the corridors and comes upon the creepy dead twins leaves you wanting your mommy.

The little girl in The Amityville Horror house

The Amityville Horror

Who the hell would let a dead girl put their finger into her brain?! It does not help either that this movie is based on a real-life haunted house, claimed by one of its previous owners, the Lutz family.

Chucky, the psycho doll from Child's Play

Chucky is a cult legend, and although there are many terrifying scenes in his five movies, with a sixth one on the way, this one makes the cut just because you know what twisted dark soul resides behind those blue glass eyes.

The possessed woman from Evil Dead

Evil Dead

Anything with a face like that staring at you from underneath the floor is bound to turn anyone into a whimpering 6-year-old. Note to self: when a book is entwined in barbed wire with devil pictures and has the words 'Leave this book alone' written on it, you should probably leave it alone. At the bottom of an ocean.

That clown from It

This movie is the entire reason clowns have become one of the most terrifying characters in scary movies. And let us hope our kids have more sense than to talk to a red-nosed stranger in a sewer.

Freddy from Nightmare on Elm Street

Nightmare on Elm Street

You already struggle to sleep after watching a scary movie, but in this character is your number one enemy. And every time old burnt face slides his Wolverine claws against something, you inch closer to the fetal position.

The demon child in The Exorcist

the exorcist

What is it with children scaring the hell out of adults? Although it might be laughable now, I bet you the first time you watched her head turn so unnaturally you were rethinking your faith.

TV girl from The Ring

The Ring

You never looked at your television set the same again.

Clapping hands in The Conjuring

The Conjuring

It's a game of 'hide-and-clap' in this new horror, where an innocent children's game gets turned into a sinister plot to make you jump out of your seats. Scares SA theater-goers next week.

You may go to your corner now...
