Los Angeles - Harry Potter heroine Hermione Granger has been named the best big-screen role model.
The brainy schoolgirl witch - portrayed in all eight movies in the series by Emma Watson - picked up 19% of votes in a survey of young film fans done by the organisations Filmclub and Lovefilm.
Author Roald Dahl was responsible for the second and third places characters, with the big screen adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory seeing poor golden ticket winner Charlie Bucket landing 16%, and Matilda Wormword from Matilda - which was adapted into a movie in 1996 and played by Mara Wilson - selected by 15% of the respondents.
Sam Wainstein from children's charity Filmclub, who carried out the poll along with rental and streaming service Lovefilm, said: "Films can have a powerful influence on the way children behave. We hope our list will help parents when it comes to choosing films."
In fourth place was Home Alone's Kevin, who was played by Macaulay Culkin, while fifth placed was Jaden Smith's Dre Parker from the Karate Kid remake.
