Cape Town – An American film crew was so overwhelmed by the support they got from a township they filmed in that they decided to raise funds to help the community.
Revolt (Prisoner of War) was filmed in and around Johannesburg during September and October 2014.
The film stars Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Berenice Marlohe (Skyfall) who journey through African countrysides and villages during an alien invasion.
According to The Hollywood Report after filming in the township, Ward 28, the production crew launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for a soccer field, drug counselling, a car wash and an irrigation system.
The film’s backers, Voltage Pictures, Automatik and 42 Productions launched the campaign on Wednesday with $15 000.
Within hours the target of $30 000 was reached.
