Cape Town - South African singer Inge Beckmann has won a role in the movie Zulu, which is currently in production in Cape Town, opposite Orlando Bloom and Forest Whitaker, reports Rolling Stone SA.
Inge, best known as the vocalist for bands such as Lark and BEAST, told Rolling Stone that she missed her first audition for the role due to a recording session, but was able to secure an audition at a later date which resulted in call-back with the director and Orlando.
"I found out on my birthday, basically," Beckmann told Rolling Stone. "I'm incredibly excited to be working with actors and crew of this calibre".
Apartheid legacy
Inge's previous roles include Death Race 2 and locally produced Afrikaans vampire horror Bloedsuiers, which also starred SA artists Jack Parow and Francois van Coke.
Zulu is based on the novel of the same name by French author Caryl Ferey and tells of a South African police officer Ali Sokhela, played by Oscar winner Forest Whitaker, the Serious and Violent Crimes Unit police chief who is drawn into the murder investigation of two white women, one of whom bears the marks of a Zulu ritual on her body.
Sokhela's partner Brian Epkeen, is played by Orlando, who has been spotted on set in Cape Town. Epkeen is described as "a free-wheeling white officer whose family was originally involved in the establishment of apartheid but who works well with Sokhela".
Set against the backdrop of rampant gang violence, social degradation and the legacy of apartheid in South Africa, Zulu also stars South African actors Tanya van Graan (Death Race 2) and Sven Ruygrok (Spud).
Zulu is written and directed by The Tourist screenwriter Jérôme Salle and is set for release in 2013.
