Melissa Rivers responds to Oscars shade

Los Angeles  - Melissa Rivers insists it "would have been nice" if her mother was honoured at the Oscars.

The 47-year-old TV producer admitted she would've enjoyed it if Fashion Police star Joan - who died last September aged 81 - was recognised in the Academy Awards' In Memoriam segment at the ceremony on Sunday but insists she has received an "overwhelming" amount of support since her passing.

A statement on her Facebook page read: "It would have been nice, especially considering the impact she had on the awards season, but Cooper and I have been overwhelmed with support and love over my mom's passing and we choose to focus on that."

A number of social networking users reacted in disappointment upon realising Joan had been omitted from the In Memoriam segment, including her Fashion Police co-host Kelly Osbourne.

She wrote on Twitter:

Following the uproar, the Academy released a statement revealing they have paid tribute to the late comedienne on the Oscars website.

It read: "Joan Rivers is among the many worthy artists and filmmakers we were unfortunately unable to feature in the In Memoriam segment of this year's Oscar show.
