Cape Town – Hot on the heels of the critically acclaimed Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom comes the story of Winnie Mandela.
The new movie, Winnie, tells the story of Winnie Mandela’s remarkable journey during Nelson Mandela’s imprisonment. Her own imprisonment and torture and her fierce courage did not falter in her commitment to realising Mandela’s dream of equality for all man.
The movie sparked controversy when it was reported that Winnie Mandela was unhappy with international stars being cast in the lead roles.
In a statement released on Winnie Mandela’s website she says that she has no problem with the Winnie Mandela film and has rejected media reports that she has a problem with the international cast.
Writer and producer André Pieterse addresses the statement released by Winnie Mandela:
The movie is scheduled for release in South Africa on Friday 7 March 2014 exclusively at selected Ster-Kinekor Theatres.
