Los Angeles - Quentin Tarantino has hinted he is set to retire from filmmaking within the next few years.
The 49-year-old director - whose slavery drama Django Unchained is to be released next month - says he doesn't want to become an "old" helmer because filmmakers don't improve as they grow older.
He told Playboy magazine: "I just don't want to be an old man filmmaker. I want to stop at a certain point. Directors don't get better as they get older.
Trilogy
"Usually the worst films in their filmography are those last four at the end. I am all about my filmography, and one bad film fucks up three good ones.
"But if I stop at 10, that would be okay as an artistic statement."
Tarantino has directed eight feature films to date - including Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill - and recently hinted Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained are the first two parts of a trilogy.
He said: "I don't know, Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained bespeak a trilogy.
"As different as they are, there is a companion piece quality. There might very well be a third one. I just don't know what it is yet."
