Ryan, Charlize for Oscar Pistorius movie?

2013-03-25 09:04
Cape Town – Hollywood stars Ryan Gosling and Charlize Theron are being lined up to play Oscar Pistorius and Reeva Steenkamp in a new movie, according to reports.

The Daily Mail reports that a number of scripts are being developed in Los Angeles which tell the tragic story of South Africa's one-time Paralympian golden boy Oscar and the fateful morning of Valentine’s Day this year in which his model girlfriend Reeva was shot and killed.

"You've got one of the world's most famous sportsmen under arrest and a beautiful young woman who meets a violent death," says a source. "Scripts began doing the rounds within days of the scandal breaking."

The story of Reeva's shooting at the hands of her famous boyfriend has already resulted in a number of TV investigative features and documentaries, such as the highly rated Oscar Pistorius – What Really Happened?, which aired in South Africa on Sunday night.

'Mystery about him'

"Ryan has the kind of quiet magnetism that would make this project work – plus there's some mystery about him," says the source.

"Although Ryan has been saying publicly that he wants to take a break from acting to relax, executives will be falling over themselves to woo him once the scripts are finalised."

A major Hollywood studio is expected to make an announcement regarding a film about the shooting soon.

Reeva, 29, was shot dead by Oscar, 26, in the bathroom of his upmarket home in Pretoria on 14 February. The Paralympic gold medallist denies murdering Reeva and claims that he mistook her for an intruder. He is out on R1m bail and is set to appear in court again on 4 June.

Oscar is also set to appeal his bail conditions in the Pretoria High Court on 28 March.

South African Oscar winner Charlize, 37, recently wrapped filming on her new movie Mad Max: Fury Road in Namibia and the Cape Town Film Studios.

Hollywood hunk Ryan – best known for his roles in The Notebook and Crazy Stupid Love – will next be seen in the crime drama The Place Beyond the Pines opposite Bradley Cooper and Eva Mendes, and is set to release his directorial debut How to Catch a Monster in 2014.

Neither actors have commented on their possible involvement in the film.

Already? Really? How disgusting is society?!

      mable.jacobs.90 - 2013-03-25 09:45

      It's too soon!!!

      Rodney Overes - 2013-03-25 09:54

This is the same Charlize who was at the other side of the door when her Mother SHOT and KILLED her father through a locked closed door.

      Sheilan.Clarke - 2013-03-25 10:02

      @Rodney: Whoa! I forgot about that. :O

      Robert Harrington - 2013-03-25 12:26

Too soon? Not soon enough, I say! What in heck took 'em so long? Ok kids, you guys over there sing the chorus! A one and-a two and-a three, MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY (SING UP!) MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY!!!

      Benjamin Bennie De Koker - 2013-03-25 12:39

Really now?! I don't see Charlize or Ryan doing it, unfortunately there always someone else willing to do it.

      Lynne Best - 2013-03-27 13:59

I totally agree. He hasn't even been tried yet

      Midnite Man - 2013-06-04 14:55

....cool ! Can't wait...will be it be released on DVD Blu-Ray as well... ?

  • Sheilan.Clarke - 2013-03-25 09:14

I mean they always do this. If a bomb goes off somewhere in the U.S killing thousands, in 2 years time there's a movie. Isn't best to wait 8 maybe 10 years to make the movie about it? So people can go: "Ohhhh I remember this. I remember where I was when this happened. Or do I? It was a while back...."

      Zaakir Hoosen - 2013-03-25 09:32

We've passed those days when stories are developed 20 years after the incident, we living in the age when media is foremost. And even if they decide to make a movie this year, it will only be completed in a year or two.

      Sheilan.Clarke - 2013-03-25 09:39

Now that's the problem - everything needs to be instant. It will hold so much more meaning if they had to wait.

      Darryn Rogers - 2013-03-25 10:44

they havent got an end to their movie(and may not get an ending for another 2 years) even though the end is gonna be pretty obvious, i think this is just talk

  • Antonia Nicolaisen - 2013-03-25 09:27

2 me it seems as though its all bout the money.4 once with the ppl that are involved give them a break.Whateva happened respectin once privacy etc.Come on!

Oscar is a world renowned sports personality or he was, he is still a global interest story. So there is no need for us to feel that Hollywood is violating any moral code although they might be doing so anyway. Because for a first time South Africa has been thrown in the global spotlight in a long long time, we South African are struggling to cope with the media attention etc. Yes, reeva's family might not like the idea, or maybe they will. Maybe this movie if an when it is made will show her life in the positive way it should be shown. Because we feel we were connected to Oscar through his successes for South Africa, and because the manner in which Reeva was killed we all feel upset every time the media involves itself. But I don't see the same comments when we read stories about other celebs from the UK or America. So let it be...

  • warren.j.ashton - 2013-03-25 09:30

Why make a movie about it WTF?

      Andrew Selous - 2013-03-26 08:51

ya.they already made 'blade runner'what now?

  • Johan Van Der Walt - 2013-03-25 09:30

Ag tog, nou gaan ons weer hoor dat ALLE Suid Afrikaanse mans is nie net verkragters nie, maar ook moordenaars. Prinses Charlize sal seker maak daarvan.

      Rodney Overes - 2013-03-25 09:50

  • Lisa Gibson - 2013-03-25 09:33

You're kidding, Right? The case hasn't even gone to trial yet. Get a life, people!

      WildCatSal - 2013-03-25 16:46

@Justanotherguy, perhaps a trilogy, last on being a spoof flik 'The Whole Tooth, Nothing but the Tooth, so help me Gum'

  • adinparadise - 2013-03-25 09:35

Hope they can at least wait for the outcome of the trial, or the movie will have no ending.

  • Jolaní Badenhorst - 2013-03-25 09:39

This is just pathetic, people have absolutely no respect for something so tragic! Sick world we live in.

  • Louise Whittingstall Barnard - 2013-03-25 09:42

I would like to know what angle they gonna use? Are they going to make Oscar look like a monster and Reeva a sweet girl, or are they going to make her look like a gold digger who would put up with a controlling possessive boyfriend she has only known for 2 months? Don't know how they can even talk about a movie at this stage as he has not even been on trial yet?Its going to be a movie based on opinion and not facts!

  • Louise Whittingstall Barnard - 2013-03-25 09:43

Oh and I support and believe in Oscar BUT he is no Ryan Gosling......

  • Eric Payi - 2013-03-25 09:45

It didn't take long at all!

  • Tricia Sutherland - 2013-03-25 09:45

Charlize Theron was a favourite of mine, but now she's getting just plain irritating.

      Sujit Das - 2013-03-26 12:41

      why she is getting irritating?

  • Drbee Benni Reloaded - 2013-03-25 09:48

I knew a Movie will come soon...but can't they wait til the trial is over so that the movie can conclude the whole story?

  • Cindy Botha Patrick - 2013-03-25 09:56

I think this is disgusting and so distatesful to Reeva and her family! Shame on you USA

  • Janet Butler - 2013-03-25 10:05

Will there b a part one and two and ... Part three!

  • Samuel Slyme - 2013-03-25 10:08

I hope Charlize is ready for the renewed media interest in the shooting of her father by her mother in 1991. Whatever did happen that day, there is enough uncertainty about it for the media to have a field day. Brace yourself, Charlie!

  • Charlie Massy - 2013-03-25 10:11

Fifty bucks says Neither Theron nor Gosling have an inkling about this "news" report and have never spoken to anyone with regards to a "script".

      Charlene Bruyns - 2013-03-25 10:15

      I agree 100%.

  • Yvonne Peter - 2013-03-25 10:17

dont agree with this at all, and yes this is Charlize, same one, that her mom killed her father !!!!and they smile and carry on WTF!!!

      tina.leal.353 - 2013-03-25 10:28

They should make a movie about that!!

  • Don Armani - 2013-03-25 10:24

This people are just scum with no sense for anyone's broken heart...

  • nkululeko.zulu.5 - 2013-03-25 10:25

Wow from Pretoria Tragedy to Hollywood Movie....this Sucks man!!!!!!

  • tina.leal.353 - 2013-03-25 10:27

Really??? is it worth making a movie about? We all know whats going to happen at the end.

      Rahil Khanna - 2013-03-25 10:35

You will have to watch the movie to find out lol

      Midnite Man - 2013-06-04 14:57

      Tell us now !!

  • Richard - 2013-03-25 10:32

Can they not wait for this case to be finalised before they run off making movies. Society is sick.

  • Andre Fourie - 2013-03-25 10:33

Ag no, you have to be F@#$#ng kiding me. Seriously???!!!!

  • Rahil Khanna - 2013-03-25 10:34

This is a freaking joke ! ..The trial hasnt even begun yet ....and people want to make a movie. Charlize should know better and show more sensitivity to this topic before accepting this role !

      André Smit - 2013-03-25 11:00

If they make a movie now, they can rake in money to pay for the trial. Then they can make a sequel after the trial is over to fill up the empty treasure chests again. Society is sick, but it almost seems like human nature to want to make money off someone elses misfortune and heartache.

  • Maluxion Nketle - 2013-03-25 10:58

Before charlize accept this role she must advice those film makers that there is more tragic event that happened at her home in benoni where her mother shot her fathert dead, and her being part of the family and knew everything she would fit perfectly and play the role of her mother and ryan play her father.I think this film would make more money since there were lot of cover ups there and people really don't know what happened instead of trying to be a scavenger on oscar matters. She must first tell us on what happened on that fateful day by acting her mother.

  • Riaan Coetzee - 2013-03-25 10:59

Had to check the date, I thought it might have been first of April....

  • Rosie Motene - 2013-03-25 11:02

If they have to make a movie then first option should go to a SA actor. who would yo choice be? Top sa actors for me: Emmanuelle Castis, Anthony Coleman.

  • Anele AfricanJewel Mgobozi - 2013-03-25 11:35

Once again the Americans telling our stories and most probably not based on fact but assumption. Two people can tell the truth but sadly one has passed on, I guess it will be Oscar's version of the story.

      WildCatSal - 2013-03-25 16:32

As in the TV Documentary - British. Why can SA not come up with ideas and make their own Documentaries and Films.. This includes hundreds of other social issues in our country before the West jumps in heads first and steal the lime light. Surely we have some talent around that can scout for numerous subjects in SA? Just thinking... Geees, we're a lazy bunch of bananas!

  • Monique Naude - 2013-03-25 11:36

Blah blah blah. They probably have no idea about this report. Besides, the trial hasn't even started yet. What is the point of making a movie now? Give her parents a chance to deal with this terrible tragedy. Give Oscar the chance to defend himself, if it is at all possible (he's been judged as guilty of murder by millions anyway) I feel sorry for both families. This should never have happened. I think this report is premature and it is in all honesty just to get readers. If it is true, I think Tinsel Town should catch a flipping wake up, and stop reaping billions in the box office, for leeching onto people's tragedies, especially since the gunshot residue hasn't even settled yet... Sies man!

  • Sonia Forssman - 2013-03-25 12:05

I cannot believe that News 24 woukd subscribe to this utter bulldust sensationalist reporting! I agree with another reader that both those actors might not even be aware that their names are coupled with such an insensitive idea/script and that it's basically just a matter of chasing sick headlines... Anyway - Ryan Gosling has way too much class to accept such a role. Charlize on the other hand...

  • Dewald Roets - 2013-03-25 12:09

The problem is, that ppl will watch the movie and it will be shot in a way where Oscar is innocent. This might even go so far as to tamper with the juries decision before they even know who the jury members are. Good strategy to want to get this to air before the trial.

  • Nkosinathi Percy - 2013-03-25 12:21

    Let her rest in peace....

  • Germandt Geldenhuys - 2013-03-25 12:31

Sometimes, the "precious" attitude in SA is one that sickens me. "Don't you dare humiliate our victims and our killers like that, by telling them the world the whole story. Let's rather tip-toe around the fact that one of our national heroes is a killer." You know what - it happened, and I think a huge population in SA is still very much in denial about the whole thing. Perhaps they think, as in many Calvinistic societies that if one doesn't talk about it, it didn't happen. That's the problem with this country. We don't talk about things. We try to shy away from it and damn it until it goes away. Getting angry over the fact that the world is going to be privy to the violence in this country isn't going to make the violence go away. And while I am completely aware that a movie will dredge up old wounds for Reeva's family, I will simply advise them not to go and see it. The same way the families of Aileen Wuornos' victims probably didn't go and see "Monster". Or were those horrific murders justifiably made into a blockbuster film because the victims were middle-aged trailer trash men and not young, blonde, beautiful starlets? "True reconciliation is never cheap, for it is based on forgiveness which is costly. Forgiveness in turn depends on repentance, which has to be based on an acknowledgement of what was done wrong, and therefore on disclosure of the truth. You cannot forgive what you do not know." - Archbishop Desmond Tutu

  • Babalwa Mabona - 2013-03-25 13:49

I just wonder what the ending will be because we don't know what happened the night Reeva died! What exactly is it that these vultures are telling that we don't know already?, because I doubt they know the intimate details of the whole relationship!

  • Ben - 2013-03-25 14:06

  • Clerance Lephaka - 2013-03-25 14:19

It does nt make sense at all,Reeva's family is tryin to recover from da loose of their daughter's death then now Ryan nd charlize wanna boost their acting profile.

  • Wikus Erasmus - 2013-03-25 15:06

Wow... the body isn't even cold yet... Disgusting...

  • galmzala - 2013-03-25 15:17

money making schem, this disgusting real, i`m speechless really.

  • Kerry-Anne Millar Garcia - 2013-03-25 15:57

  • WildCatSal - 2013-03-25 16:10

  • Nadine Hayward - 2013-03-25 16:57

There is always a f@#king movie!!!

  • Martini Coetzee - 2013-03-25 17:59

Is this your April FOOL joke?? :-( !!!!! Charlize will never trash her fame in SA like that !! SOMMER SIMPEL VERBY!!!!

  • Ian Rowe - 2013-03-25 18:48

This channel knows what makes you all tick tho!!

  • kim.bruce.33 - 2013-03-26 12:08

How discusting that a terribe tragedy is going to be turned into a circus, does no one have any self respect in the USA.

  • rose.mcmillan - 2013-03-26 13:37

I find this totally disgusting,it's the age old story "Kick the dog when he is down" all for the sake of money. Have they no respect for the parents of both Reeva and Oscar.

  • federico.meazzo - 2013-03-26 15:52

First the killing then come the movie , a very crisy story of to day societa.

  • Olivia du Plessis - 2013-03-27 09:48

Ryan excellent choice. Charlize too old. Emma Stone better choice. We were all speculating how long before this happened. I do hope they use this to make people aware of Domestic Violence and all the abuse that goes hand in hand with it. Everybody comments about Charlize's mom shooting her dad. Domestic violence is not always discussed. Many men are abuser but their friends and family will never suspect because women don't want to tell that they are being abused by the one the love. The movie will be controversial as no verdict has been passed but it will once again highlight how easy abuse can infiltrate any relationship.

  • Belgicain Laurent Ilunga - 2013-04-01 22:19

Money making, this is very sad. A family is still mourning their child, an athlete is confused and distressed but Hollywood wants to open wounds that are not healed yet. What a shame.!
