Los Angeles - Universal is working on a follow-up to Safe House.
David Guggenheim wrote the original script for the movie - which stars Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds - and is now back to the pen the as yet untitled continuation.
He has once again teamed up with producer Scott Stuber to continue the action thriller, which saw Ryan portray a young CIA agent overseeing a South African safe house and taking care of a rogue agent (Denzel).
Ryan has said he wants to return to play the CIA agent in the next film, which has yet to be confirmed as a sequel or prequel.
While Denzel's character died in the first film, sources say that Universal is keen to have the actor involved again.
Safe House - directed by Daniel Espinosa - made $126m domestically and $202 million worldwide after its release earlier this year.
