Scarlett 'too sexy' for Dragon Tattoo

Los Angeles - Scarlett Johansson was deemed too sexy to star in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Director David Fincher decided against giving the role of main character Lisbeth Salander - who is played by Rooney Mara - to the 26-year-old beauty, despite her "great" audition, because people "can't wait for her to take her clothes off".

He told "We flew in people from New Zealand and Swaziland and all over the place.

"Look, we saw some amazing people. Scarlett Johansson was great. It was a great audition, I'm telling you. But the thing with Scarlett is, you can't wait for her to take her clothes off.

'Like E.T'

"I keep trying to explain this. Salander should be like E.T. If you put E.T. dolls out before anyone had seen the movie, they would say, 'What is this little squishy thing?' Well, you know what? When he hides under the table and he grabs the Reese's Pieces, you love him! It has to be like that."

Before finally casting Rooney Mara in the role, David Fincher - who directed The Social Network, the 26-year-old stunner's last movie - was worried he wouldn't ever find the right actress to portray the character.

He added: "I had seen a lot of actresses. I was beginning to get to the point where I was thinking, 'Maybe conceptually you are talking about a person who doesn't exist'."

I saw the Swedish subtitled movie & I thought Noomi Rapace was very well cast as Lisbeth Salander - I hope Hollywood gets it right because it's a great story/movie.

Why make an American version, are Americans incapable of reading subtitles? The original movies are just fine.

Hollywood directors and their need to always make American versions of eVERYTHING. there was nothing wrong with the original Swedish version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo! And if they were searching so frantically for a lead actress- y didn't they consider the actress in the Swedish film? I'm almost positive she can speak English. And anyways, the main character Lisbeth Salander is supposed to be tomboyish, y wud Scarlett Johanson even be allowed an audition when she wouldn't make a convincing tomboy? or is Lisbeth's look also gonna be "Americanized"? u know- blonde hair, preferably blue eyes, hot-girl-next-door kinda look? I hv no doubt the movie wil b nyc, bt lyk i sed- there was nothing wrong with the Swedish film. People shud just master the art of watching a movie with subtitles cos there are so many gr8 4reign language movies, that when remade for the globall english crowd, the movie loses so much of it's essence and effect.
