The Rock wants to play Bond villain

London - Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson wants to play a Bond villain.

The G.I. Joe: Retaliation star admits he's a big fan of James Bond actor Daniel Craig and loved the latest instalment in the 007 franchise - last year's Skyfall, which became the most successful Bond movie of all time - and believes he could be a worthy adversary to the suave secret agent in the next film.

Speaking to BANG Showbiz at the G.I. Joe premiere at the Empire Cinema in London's Leicester Square, he said: "Skyfall's one of the greatest action movies of all time. It's amazing. Love Daniel Craig. I would love to be in Bond. Maybe a Bond baddie."

'Franchise Viagra'

The wrestler-turned-actor has some history with the 007 films as his late grandfather, wrestler High Chief Peter Maivia, had a small role as a Bond nemesis in 1967's You Only Live Twice - which starred Sir Sean Connery as the iconic secret agent - and Johnson would love to follow in his footsteps.

He added: "You know, my grandfather was in You Only Live Twice. He was a Bond baddie."

Although he has been labelled "franchise Viagra" after reinvigorating the G.I. Joe and Fast and Furious films, Johnson is in no hurry to join the action-packed Expendables franchise, which stars ageing big screen heroes such as Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger, warning that "they're not ready" for his "ass-kicking".

He said: "Expendables 3? They're not ready for me! They're not ready for this ass-kicking!"

Other stars who walked the red carpet at the premiere included Adrianne Palicki, D.J. Cotrona, Ray Stevenson, Jonathan Pryce, Elodie Yung and G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon M Chu.
